Family time in Arrowtown, Queenstown and Cardrona

After Dunedin it was time for Queenstown and spending time with Markus’ parents. We had tried to find accommodation in Queenstown with no luck. It’s almost impossible to get accommodation within two weeks from there. Luckily Markus parents stayed in Arrowtown, a small city next to Queens and they had space in their room so we could sleep there. Unfortunately there was space only for one night so we had to find another place for the next night. We found only one place for four people in the area. It was in Cardrona, 40 min drive from Queenstown. Crazy, we would say!😵

The drive from Dunedin to Arrowtown was quite ok. We stopped few times to admire turquoise rivers and lakes and went to taste some cheese at a cheesery. When we arrived to Arrowtown, Markus parents were there waiting for us. It was nice to see them again! 😊 They had reserved a table for us in a local restaurant for the evening. We went to Queenstown for few hours walking around and checking if Markus would get his burger at the famous Fergburger. Last time Markus was there with his friend and sister, they had maybe 4 people before them but now the queue curved around the corner. It had been a 40min wait to order and at least the same to wait for the burger so we skipped it! The burgers are good, but not 1,5-2h wait good. 😉

In the evening we went with Markus' parents Ulla and Pertti to eat. It was still sunny and we sat outside in the sun. We had a good time with ok food and good beer. Ulla and Pertti told that it was actually our birthday dinner, a bit in advance though. 😃 The dinner and rest of the evening were filled with laughs and smiles.

Next day we drove to Glenorchy, a tiny township at the other side of lake Wakatipu. The drive was really nice with a lot of viewpoints and stunning landscapes and views. In Glenorchy itself is not much to see or do. We went to a café and there was a funny dog that used customers as stick throwers. 😂 He came with a stick and wanted us to throw it. It got smaller and smaller all the time and in the end it was almost the size of a coin, and still he wanted us to throw it. 😂 After coffee and cake, we walked a bit around the town before heading to our new accommodation in the mountains.

Woof woof! Throw me the stick! Throw me the stick! 😂

It was a curvy road up in the mountains and we stopped few times to enjoy the views. After a long drive we finally arrived to our place. It was a quite cozy place close to a river. We had a nice afternoon walk along the river before we cooked a delicious dinner. Later in the evening we went also outside to see the star sky. It was amazing how many stars we could see! 😊 After a good night sleep and healthy breakfast it was time to say again goodbye to Markus' parents when our ways continued to different directions. We left to Milford Sound and Ulla and Pertti to Dunedin. Milford Sound is not a concert or festival. In the next post we tell what it is!😉
