After
Iguazu falls we had a few days to spend in São Paulo before flying to Chile. We
had met João at the Christmas dinner in Penedo and he lives in São Paulo. He
was kind enough to invite us to stay with him for the two nights we were in SP.
How great is that!?
Many people
had said that there is not much to do or see in SP and asked why we were going
there. Well, we had thought we would go somewhere else before flying out but we
wouldn’t really had time to travel somewhere else and then travel to SP so we
headed there 😜
A happy hydrant greeting us in SP
We stayed
quite central, in the area of Vila Mariana in a peaceful residential area. We got a tip
to go to see the Japanese area in SP. We hadn’t even heard of it before and
were interested to see what it was about. We took the subway to Liberdade and immediately when we came out we saw a market with different things. There
were stands selling Japanese and Asian products and then there was a food court
with a LOT of people queuing to different dumpling stands. Too bad we had just
had food, so we only enjoyed a sugarcane-coconut-lime lemonade. It was
delicious 😋 Then we just walked around, Edda bought a few inexpensive pieces
of clothes from the street sellers (shorts, pants and a jumpsuit for about 12 €
total).

On our
second day in SP we went to see the Cultural centrum but it was a construction
area… Then we walked on Avenida Paulista and walked pass the Museum of modern art.
We saw posters outside of the exhibitions and they didn’t seem that interesting
so we didn’t go in. João said we should try the ‘pastel’s’, which are filled
pastry fried quickly in oil. Well, not very healthy, but nice to taste! We just
walked on Paulista and looked around. There wasn’t really much to see. We
walked through a few shopping centrums but other than that there was nothing to
do. 😕 We started to understand why people say there is not much to do in SP.
Many pastels to choose from
Healthy food... 😀

Interestingly first time I saw the page, it scrolled so that the hydrant's smile was below the visible part of a page - it looked quite scared. And then you scroll a bit down and realize that scared mouth is actually a nose above the smile :)
